Man sentenced to life for raping a minor, sentence of Rs 22 lakh imposed

A special court in Bundi district, Rajasthan, on Friday sentenced a 25-year-old man to life imprisonment for raping a Dalit girl and posting the video of the crime on social media.

Based on the minor’s complaint, the police had filed a complaint under sections of Indian Penal Code, POCSO Act, Computers Act and sections of SC and ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act against Singh the March 12, 2020.

He was arrested after an initial investigation and has since been in detention under judicial supervision, said the public prosecutor.

For a speedy trial, police included the case under the case officer program and filed the indictment against Singh on May 26, 2020, he said.

Statements from at least 19 witnesses were taken during the trial and 41 documents were submitted to the court, Thakur said.

“This is the ninth conviction in a case under the Officer in Charge program this year and the police are committed to bringing those accused of atrocities and crimes against girls and women to justice. by a speedy trial,” Bundi SP Jai Yadav said.
